Biography of Mr. Liu Xiaoming
Mr Liu Xiaoming is the 13th Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United Kingdom.
Mr Liu was born in 1956 and graduated from the Dalian University of Foreign Languages in 1974. He obtained a Master's Degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in 1983.
Mr Liu had wide-ranging experience in international affairs and multilateral diplomacy. He first joined the Chinese Foreign Service in 1974. He took part in numerous international negotiations and consultations while he was with the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Zambia as the Political Officer from 1975 to 1978; Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Deputy Director-General from 1995 to 1998; and Chinese Embassy in the United States as the Minister (Deputy Chief of Mission) from 1998 to 2001.
In 2001, he was elevated to the post of Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt. From 2004 to 2005, he served as the Assistant Governor of Gansu Province. From 2006 to 2009, he was Ambassador to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Ambassador Liu and his wife, Ms Hu Pinghua, who is also a career diplomat, have one son.
