Mr Li studied naval architecture and marine engineering at the Massachusettes Institute of Technology and University of Michigan, USA. He joined the Taikoo Dockyard when he returned Hong Kong and had made remarkable achievement during his 18-year career as a naval architect and shipbuilder. Then he switched to securities and real estate business. A sophisticated artist, Mr Li is also enthusiastic in education service and has close connection with Sheng Kung Hui. He has served on the School Councils of a number of Sheng Kung Hui secondary schools. In recognition of his outstanding service to local education, the Government of Hong Kong and Sheng Kung Hui named a secondary school in Chai Wan Sheng Kung Hui Li Fook Hing Secondary School in 1996. Mr Li has also made significant contributions to the medical service sector. He is also a Member of the Hospital Governing Committee of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, and was Chairman of the Committee from 1997 to 2000. Mr Li is also a Member of the Hospital Governing Committee of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and United Christian Hospital and a Trustee of CWM/ Nethersole Fund. For his distinguished contributions to education, medical and social services, Mr Li was awarded the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1987. Mr Li Fook Hing has a long and close relationship with Chung Chi College. He joined the Board of Governors of Chung Chi College in 1968, which was later reorganized as the College Board of Trustees, and has rendered distinguished service on the Board for over 36 years until 2004. He was also the Chairman of the Board during 1981 to 1987. Under his outstanding leadership, the College accomplished several important projects and grew from strength to strength. Mr Li helped to launch the Siu Tao Fung Shan Project which continuously generates revenue for the College. He also guided the management of the Board's endowment funds. With the support of such generous private funding, Chung Chi College is able to enrich its non-formal education programme and provide new education opportunities for its students. Mr Li has also made magnanimous donations to the University, including in the form of scholarships for Mainland students.
