Hornworts(Anthocerotophyta)
Anthoceros 角苔
horn-like sporophyte

- Longitudinal section of horn-like sporophyte of Anthoceros (capsule part); in most species of hortwort, sporophyte is continually growing from near the base due to the activity of basal intercalary meristem, forming a long horn-like capsule producing haploid spores over a long period of time (theoretically indefinitely). A column of sterile tissue called a columella is found along its central axis, which is suggested to be a conducting system for nourishing the developing spores; immature capsule wall is photosynthetic.
