News: Temperature roller coaster: 29°C Now, 14°C next monday with weekend cold front

Recently, the weather has been like a roller coaster, fluctuating between warm and cold, and it’s humid as well. However, a cold front will pass over the weekend, and early next week, we will be affected by the northeast monsoon, with a minimum temperature of 14 degrees. The observatory predicts that it will remain humid in the next couple of days, but temperatures will drop on Saturday due to the cold front.

Continuing cold wave affects Guangdong, with temperatures dropping below 0 degrees Celsius in many areas. Ice hanging phenomena have been observed in mountainous areas of Guangzhou. The Guangdong Meteorological Service states that cold air will further move southward tomorrow with unabated intensity. The weather throughout the province will remain extremely cold. In the mountainous areas of northern and central-southern Guangdong, the morning temperatures will be even lower than today, with widespread temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius and the possibility of freezing conditions.

A cold front is currently crossing the Guandong coast. The Hong Kong Observatory predicts that tomorrow morning there will be a significant drop in temperature in Hong Kong. The lowest temperature in the city area will be around 15 degrees Celsius, while the New Territories will be a few degrees lower. On Monday, the northerly winds will strengthen and it will turn colder. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the lowest temperature in the city area will drop to around 8 degrees Celsius, while the New Territories will experience even colder temperatures. There will be strong winds and a few showers. Due to the combination of humidity, freezing conditions, and wind chill effects, the perceived temperature will be lower than the actual temperature. Citizens are advised to keep warm.

Global Variation in the Effects of Ambient Temperature on Mortality: A Systematic Evaluation

This paper examines the variation in the associations between temperature and mortality in multiple countries, analyzed simultaneously. Meta-analysis results show that both cold and hot temperatures increased the risk of mortality in all the countries/regions. Cold effects were delayed and lasted for many days, whereas heat effects appeared quickly and did not last long.

This paper explores the development of personal comfort models to predict older people's thermal needs in their homes and evaluates the models' predictive performances in comparison with conventional generalised approaches. Results have also highlighted the need for further research on combining physiological sensing, individualised predictive modelling and wearable comfort systems, as well as on defining thermal preference misclassification costs in the context of older people.
