The history of the Centre can be traced back to the founding of the “Chinese Teaching Information Technology Centre” jointly established by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 1999, which started off mainly focusing on the development of information technology in Chinese teaching. The Centre was renamed the “Chinese Language Teaching Development Centre” in 2003, placing great emphasis on Chinese language teaching in Hong Kong, and has taken a clear position in promoting research on Chinese language teaching in tertiary education and exploring innovative teaching methodologies.

Our missions:

• To support Chinese language teaching at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and to enhance the Chinese language standard;
• To explore innovative methodologies for Chinese language teaching in tertiary education
