Co-Convenors’ Message
Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome to the tenth issue of the Policy Research @ HKIAPS e-Newsletter. We hope that you are well and that this newsletter keeps you updated on our efforts to advance the policy impacts of our colleagues’ academic studies.

Following the successful Policy Forum on Global Chaozhou People and the Belt and Road Initiative held in May, we organized the Policy Forum on Building a Sustainable Healthcare System for Hong Kong. The forum, supported by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s College of Professional and Continuing Education, the Centre for Ageing and Healthcare Management Research, and the Hong Kong College of Community Health Practitioners, took place at Cho Yiu Conference Hall, CUHK on 28–29 July. The forum brought together local and international scholars and politicians to evaluate the strengths of Hong Kong’s public healthcare system and the challenges that it faces, and to examine caring services and suggest policy recommendations, with a focus on sustainability, crisis management, strengthening primary healthcare capabilities, and ensuring financial viability. The two-day forum consisted of three keynote speeches, four panel sessions, and a roundtable discussion. We are grateful to have had more than 250 participants attend the conference in person and online.

In addition to the forum, the report on The Social Mobility of Young People in Hong Kong: An Analysis Based on Household Surveys, written by Victor W. T. Zheng, Hua Guo, and Kevin T. W. Wong, was published in August 2023. The fifth report in the Policy Research Report Series, it focuses on young and middle-aged individuals in Hong Kong. The analysis is conducted from three aspects: educational opportunities, opportunities in the economy, and subjective social class.

Over the past months, our members have also published other journal articles and commentaries on various topics, including sociodemographic changes and well-being, economic growth and distribution, and environmental planning and sustainability. We hope to continue enriching our society and contributing to our collective knowledge and understanding.

Lastly, as the Co-Convenors of Policy Research @ HKIAPS, we would like to extend a warm welcome to new members joining this vibrant platform. We appreciate the continuing collaboration and support of partners and friends. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and working together on interdisciplinary scholarly exchanges in the future!

Wishing you a happy, healthy, and successful 2024 and Year of the Dragon!
