Good Practices from the 3rd Cycle Undergraduate Programme Reviews

Learning Outcomes

The outcomes-based approach (OBA) to teaching and learning enhances student attainment of the identified learning outcomes. Learning objectives should align with the programme design (subject content), pedagogical strategies, learning activities and assessment not just at programme-level, but at course-level as well. Under the OBA, guidance is provided to every student to acquire the graduate attributes.

In the programme review exercise at the CUHK, Aims and Desired Learning Outcomes and Achievement of Learning Outcomes are two of the elements being studied corresponding with the CUHK's Integrated Framework for Curriculum Development and Review. This section showcases the good practices identified in the above two elements.

Aims and Desired Learning Outcomes

The desired learning outcomes describe what the students are expected to achieve after completion of the learning process, and is one of the core elements in the integrated framework. The alignment between other units in the framework is essential for a well-designed curriculum. For example, learning activities are designed to teach students what they are expected to acquire in the learning process.

The videos below showcase the good practices of Aims and Desired Learning Outcomes that are identified from the third cycle undergraduate programme review.

Achievement of Learning Outcomes

The actual learning outcomes are what the students achieve after completion of the learning process. As one of the core elements in the integrated framework, the alignment between other units in the framework is also essential for a well-designed curriculum. For example, assessment tasks are designed to measure students' achievement of learning outcomes.
