Director’s Message
Dear HKIAPS Members and Friends,

Welcome to the tenth issue of the HKIAPS e-Bulletin. As we enter a new season, we present this e-Bulletin to keep you connected with our efforts in various fields of Social Science research.

As long-lasting COVID-19 control measures have finally come to an end, we are resuming the scale of our research fieldwork and public activities, and striving to sustain our research activities. In the past two years, we have also learned a new way of disseminating our research and maintaining existing exchanges with our international collaborators. In the past half year we have held more than 20 seminars and a public lecture series, which were offered by the various centres. In this way, we have been able to overcome the limitations of geographical distance and to have a larger research impact than before. At the same time, our Institute has maintained its standard research publications, including survey press releases, journal articles, reports, and newspaper commentaries.

In this issue, we highlight the Policy Forum on Developing the Greater Bay Area as a Centre of High-quality Proprietary Chinese Medicine held on 28 October 2022. The panelists attended this forum in person, and it was held in a hybrid mode. Based on the Public Policy Research-funded project “The Innovative Combination of Hong Kong’s Brand Strength and the Mainland’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology in Developing the Greater Bay Area (GBA) as a Centre of High-quality Proprietary Chinese Medicine”, the Policy Forum aimed to provide a platform for policymakers, representatives of the Chinese medicine industry, and scholars to engage in in-depth discussions on how to promote collaboration within the GBA to expand the Chinese medicine market.

In the coming months, we will continue to have a research impact by holding two events: An Annual Gender Role Workshop and international policy forum on Building a Sustainable Healthcare System for Hong Kong. As border control measures are gradually removed and international academic exchanges return to normal, we shall continue to disseminate our research and reach the public in more accessible ways.
