With a generous donation from the Hong Kong Cancer Fund, a state-of-the-art Cancer Patient Resource
Centre (CPRC) has been built on the 3rd floor of the Cancer Centre. The CPRC is jointly managed by
the Chinese University and the Hospital Authority. A private visit by Her Royal Highness, the Countess of
Wessex, accompanied by Mr David Tang and Mrs Sally Lo on 30th November 2002 paved the way for future
collaborations between charitable organizations in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. The Inauguration
Ceremony of the Centre took place on 8th January 2003, officiated by Mrs Betty Tung, wife of the Chief
Executive, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The officiating party included
Mrs Sally Lo, Chairman of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund; Dr Ko Wing Man, Director for Professional Services
and Public Affairs, Hospital Authority; Dr Fung Hong, Cluster Chief Executive of New Territories East Cluster;
Professor Sydney Chung, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and Professor Anthony Chan, Chairman and
Chief of Service, Department of Clinical Oncology. The centre provides an Oasis of Calm for cancer
patients undergoing treatment in the Cancer Centre and also a venue suitable for conducting research
in the psychosocial aspects of cancer care. |
