Expanding the footprint in Serbia

In the summer of 2017, 21 CUHK undergraduate students from various academic disciplines embarked on an once-in-a-lifetime experience thousands of miles away from Hong Kong. The Interdisciplinary Summer School for Chinese Students at the University of Novi Sad (UNS), Serbia provided participants with an overview of Serbia, a Belt and Road  country that is part of the former Yugoslavia. During the 11-day summer school, students learned about a number of topics on Serbia and south-eastern Europe, including its culture, religion, literature, business, economy, law and even gastronomy.

On arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by UNS Rector Prof. Dušan Nikolić. Three out of the five lecture days were held on the UNS main campus in Novi Sad, with the other two on UNS campuses situated in the cities of Sobotica and Sombor. Outside of the lectures, the students explored various historic, cultural and natural sites in Northern Serbia as well as in Belgrade, the country’s capital. There were also opportunities for the students to interact with local students, and learn about the Chinese community in Serbia.
