First internship at Conrad Hong Kong in 2013
A good mentor is hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget. I
´
ve never imagined how CUMP
empowered me to who I am today.
Looking back, when I was at my first year of study, I had no idea on what industry I am suitable to work for,
not to mention any career aspiration in long term. I felt like the major I was doing was not my type and I
was confused about my career path. Fortunately, through CUMP, I got to meet with my mentor, Mr. Thomas
Hoeborn, General Manager at Conrad Hong Kong.
At the first gathering, Thomas arranged his mentees
a hotel tour, and we had the chance to meet with Miss
Ada Wong, another mentor of CUMP, who is the Human
Resources Director at the hotel. While we walked around
the hotel, I was explained how a successful hotel requires
countless effort, teamwork and collaboration between
different departments which I found it so inspiring. In
the hotel visit, we were shown not only the sophisticated
restaurants but also the beautiful guest rooms including
among others the presidential suite and chairman suite.
On that day, I was fascinated by the warm welcoming of
the hotel staff, relaxed atmosphere of the lobby, and the
personalized designs of guest rooms. During the walk,
we shared viewpoints on the essential elements of a five-
star hotel, and some nice hotel experiences.
