Cultural Interaction
The curtain of various activities at CUHK has been raised along with the start of a new academic year. The following
programmes organized by the Office of Student Affairs have made their way to facilitating cross cultural interaction on
campus and are now in full swing.
The i-Ambassador Scheme
With the aims of celebrating cultural
variety and providing a platform for
students to realize their creative ideas
into internationalization activities, the i-Ambassador
Scheme, a new initiative though, has already created a
buzz - more than 180 students from around the globe
have applied, including those from Hong Kong, mainland
China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea,
Indonesia, India, the UK and the USA, etc.

internationalization on
campus by organizing
activities in their own way.
The i-Ambassadors from
Hong Kong, Taiwan and India brought handmade signature
snacks of their homelands to the Ceremony for the others
to have a try. Nina Hadiwidjaja, an i-Ambassador from
Indonesia, also shared her team’s activity
plan, “Indonesian culture is vibrant but
quite underrated in Hong Kong, so I and
my Indonesian team members hope
to promote our culture to the CUHK
community. We plan to introduce our
traditional food, music, games as well as
batik, a pattern used in many types of
traditional Indonesian attire.”
The Internationalization Activity
Fund is meant for those who
do not join the i-Ambassador
Scheme but plan to organize
cultural activities and wish to
seek financial support:

CUHK Host Family Programme
Since 2013, the CUHK Host Family
Programme has forged a cultural
bond between non-local CUHK students
and University staff, allowing the students to experience the
lifestyle of Hong Kong. This year, the Programme attracts
more than 30 hosts and almost 50 students from mainland
China, Taiwan, Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand and Russia to
join. The hosts and their hosting students had a chance to
first meet each other at the Meet-and-Greet Gathering, an
occasion for them to spark up their relationships.
Debbie Chen Tzu-ying, a freshman from Taiwan, is happy
to be part of this Programme. “It is a great opportunity
for non-local students to know more about the real life
and culture in this hustle and bustle city. By hanging
out and interacting with the host, we can understand
how an ordinary family here is like.” After the Meet-and-
Greet Gathering, Debbie and the other student in her
group visited an exhibition at the Hong Kong Heritage
Museum with their host. She is already looking forward to
participating in more activities together in the future.
