The University aims to promote the widest possible environmental awareness among staff, students, their families and the community as a whole through education, campaigns and publicity. First of all, a wide range of courses is offered to educate undergraduate and postgraduate students about the environment. Scholars and guest speakers are invited from all over the world to exchange ideas and deliver speeches on environmental protection for academics and for the general public. In addition, forums and activities such as eco-tours have been organized by the University and by green student societies such as Green Post and Green World to encourage a deeper appreciation of nature among our staff and students.

The University also proactively participates in activities organized by government departments and NGOs. In conjunction with Green Peace and other local tertiary institutions, the University has committed to an increase in the use of renewable energy to make CUHK a “Solar Campus”. To spread the message of waste reduction, a team of CUHK staff and students joined the “Zero Waste Walk” of the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Festival organized by the Environmental Campaign Committee in December 2005.
The University deeply believes that only by raising environmental awareness can we ensure that our next generation will live in a better environment.
