 University Profile 大學概說

“The Gate” stands proudly in front of the University Library. The dynamic form of the sculpture resembles two men locked in combat. Its broad rectangular base, nicknamed the Beacon, is a popular site for public forums.
中大圖書館外屹立一座雕塑，其名為「門」，形象生動，狀似二人相搏，雕像下的長方形平臺甚為寬敞，俗稱「烽火臺」，公開論壇常在此舉行。

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), with more than 130 state-of-the-art buildings, lies on a spacious 134-hectare campus in the New Territories, next to Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve, surrounded by six wonderful country parks. CUHK is the largest tertiary institution in Hong Kong in terms of campus area.

The University has its origin in three colleges: New Asia College, Chung Chi College and United College. In 1963, the three colleges were amalgamated to form The Chinese University of Hong Kong. A fourth College, Shaw College, was added in 1986. CUHK assists in the preservation, creation, application and dissemination of knowledge through teaching, research and public service in a comprehensive range of disciplines. At present, the University has seven faculties including Arts, Business Administration, Education,  Engineering,  Medicine,  Science  and

Social Science, with about 5,000 staff members. Total student enrolment,  graduate and undergraduate and post-graduate, is more than 17,000. The University is also home for many staff and students, with the Postgraduate Hall Complex, Chung Chi College, New Asia College, United College and Shaw College providing more than 5,500 hostel places, while staff quarters provide about 300 flats for staff and their families.

香港中文大學校園寬敞，佔地一百三十四公頃，超過一百一十所設備先進的建築物矗立其間，毗鄰大埔滘自然保護區，周圍有六個景物宜人的新界郊野公園，論校園面積，居全港大學之冠。
The NA Pavilion illustrates the concept of the "union of man and nature", as advocated by Prof. Ch'ien Mu.
合一亭展示錢穆教授揭櫫的天人合一觀念。

The University provides about 300 quarters for staff and their families.
中大約有三百個職員宿舍住宅，供教職員和家屬居住。 		本校源自三所書院：新亞書院、崇基學院、聯合書院。一九六三年，三所書院合併成為香港中文大學；一九八六年，逸夫書院成立，是為中大第四所成員書院。本校開辦多門學科，從事教學、研究以及公共服務，務求保存、創造、應用及傳播知識。目前中大有文學院、工商管理學院、教育學院、工程學院、醫學院、科學
院、社會科學院等七個學院，教職員約五千人，本科生及研究生超過一萬七千人。不少員生更在校內寄宿。研究院宿舍、崇基學院、新亞書院、聯合書院、逸夫書院共有學生宿位五千五百個，職員宿舍則有約三百個住宅，供教職員和家屬居住。
