Academic departments of the University are actively engaged in research in a wide range of disciplines. The University also has an array of research institutes and research centres specializing in interdisciplinary research of the highest quality. In addition, smaller research units have been set up by individual Faculties and departments. The University has also established a number of joint research units in partnership with external academic institutions to pool resources for the advancement of knowledge in different subject areas.

Success of research institutes and research centres will be evaluated against various indicators, including research activities carried out, external research grants received, donations received, publications and conference papers affiliated, and other impacts generated.
